My Favorite Image of 2008

With the year drawing to a close, I thought it would be fun to look back and try to pick a favorite photo- well, I had a really hard time choosing only 1. I settled for 9 among my favorites but I really have to say that how much I thoroughly enjoyed meeting all the children that I photographed this year. From the youngest one to the oldest, I did not have a single one who was hard to work with, I feel so privileged to have had the chance to photograph them all- and such gorgeous models too! They surely made my job so easy (a big thank you to the parents as well).

This 'n' That

Today I am sharing a few of the products that I offer:

You may remember this collage storyboard from last month- the print was textured and sprayed for protection and then mounted on standout. Standout is a thick lightweight board with a black plastic edge; it has hanging holes on the backside. It is 3/4" in depth. It comes ready for display, all you need to do is hang it on your wall. I love the modern clean look.

I now offer session gallery albums in 2 sizes- the standard 5x7 and the cute 5x5.

This is a mini accordion album, which is complimentary with a qualifying order. It displays up to 10 photos and it is the perfect size to tuck in your purse.

High-resolution images are available for purchase on CD which comes in an album-style leather holder, in a presentation box.

Season of Giving

I am starting the month of December with something very special-
this is an invitation for you to nominate someone you know to receive a mini photo session with "Reflections by Cindy". This is can be a session for just children (my specialty), but I'm also extending it to maternity, couples, families or anyone else in between.

To start, just send me an e-mail with your nomination and why they deserve it- all nominations have to be received by December 13th. The reasons for nomination will be up to you- maybe they finally had/adopted the baby they've been waiting for so long, or they had a rough year, or they're just your best friends/neighbors and you want to surprise them! The process is anonymous- you get the fun part of presenting your nominee a gift certificate for a mini photo session in January/February, including a mounted 11x14 print and session gallery album.

Cake Smash!!!

I had planned to do little "I"'s cake smash right after his birthday last month but he was not feeling too well (courtesy of 4 new teeth).

This morning, the timing was just right- of course, he's a toddler on the run and I only had 10 minutes to complete this mini session before he decided he was done.

I love how the storyboard turned out- it's 20x16 size and I made it to match 'J's 3rd birthday collage so I can hang them side by side.

Large Print

Most people are of the mind set that an 8x10 print is large enough to hang on a wall- as you can see, it really is not. I actually suggest 8x10 prints to be used for desktop displays. Even a 14x11 looks quite modest in comparison to the 30x20 collage.

I was really excited when this family chose to order a large print for their family room- it looks absolutely fabulous!

A Modeling Session

And here it is- the 'surprise' from last week!

The Modern Victoria is bridal store here in town- they actually offer a little bit of everything for special occasions, from baby christening outfits to wedding day attire. The selection of formal dresses for girls is to die for! And they also have boys suits and tuxedos in all sizes.

None of these children are professional models but they quite look the part, don't you agree?
And we had so much fun!

I met little 'C' and her big sister 'K' yesterday, along with their parents, for a Fall session. I'm sure you will agree with me that they are beautiful little girls- I love their dark chocolate eyes, so gorgeous.

And a brief, unrelated announcement- my desktop was infected with a nasty virus and it compromised internet safety. This means I have to send it in for a deep clean and will be restricted for awhile. Hopefully, it will only be for a few days (so wish me all the luck!).

My littlest guy turns 1 today- I can't believe how fast this past year went.

He's a very busy little guy and wants nothing to do with mom's photo sessions- I still managed to capture a few quick ones before he went on with his happy little ways.

I took my four children for a mini session last week. My intent was to get a nice one of them together for our Christmas card.

As you can probably guess, it didn't quite work. I did manage to get some very nice individual captures- they are very photogenic children, even if I say so myself.
In the end, I really did get what I wanted- my card is designed and ready to send to the pro photo lab that I use for press printing. And coming soon to a mailbox near you right after Thanksgving (if you'd like to be added to my Holiday mailing list, just send me an e-mail).

We had a mini session this morning at the park off Main Street and the weather was just perfect. I really liked how their mom had them dressed- casual nice and coordinating colors. The blue was very flattering to their eyes and it made a great contrast to the green grass.

Almost 2 weeks ago, a kid pushed 'J' in the playground in the park- he fell against a metal step and it resulted in 6 stitches.''

The doctor had told 'J' that he had to take it easy for a few days and try not to go outside, but playing outdoors it's 'J's favorite thing to do.

And here he is, enjoying a few moments in the front yard, on a bright and sunny fall morning, right after coming from the doctor's office from having his stitches removed.

'J' has the disposition and personality of the sun, bright and happy.

Almost not a Toddler

"J" will be 3 in a little over 2 months and already he is beginning to look like a boy, losing that familiar look of 'toddlerhood'.

We had a little mini-session (emphasis on 'little') and I was able to capture so many of his 'signature' expressions- every single one absolutely represents him, the real way that he is now. I cannot pick a favorite.

I really like how these turned out, 'R' likes to pose and she does it well too. She turned 9 in May and is starting 4th grade.

We usually get the traditional school photos on the 1st day but that means having to wait by the marquee. So this year we went early in order to have the grounds all for us.

Session Gallery Album

I wanted to show you this session gallery album. It's from the photo session with the adorable newborn girl I met a few weeks ago.

Session gallery albums contain the edited images of each session in quantities of 20, 30 or 40 photos (depending on how each session goes). Photos are 5x7 in size and spiral bound. Each book comes with a specially custom made cover and all photos are presented with a black border, which makes for a very elegant item (it comes packaged in a protective acid-free clear box).

I also call these 'brag books'- you can tuck this little book in your diaper bag or purse and then show it to all your friends. You will never be found again without the perfect photo of your child. It is also easy to mail to the grandparents or other family members who live away.

A Litte Bit of Fun

Yesterday I had the chance to meet with some fellow photographers in downtown SLC.
It was really hot and not the most ideal time for photo sessions, but I still managed to get this sweet capture- this is 'D', K.'s older son. What a handsome little guy, his eyes are just gorgeous.

This was my humble beginning, exactly 6 months ago.

And here I am today, celebrating my little blog's half birthday!

I have learned so much about photography in these past 6 months, and I still have so much to learn. I can only imagine what the future will bring!

Preview of Gallery Wrap Canvas

I have been able to acquire a software tool that allows me to show a preview of what a photo will look like as a gallery wrap canvas- of course, it's a digital rendition so variations are expected, but I think it looks rather good. If you look closely, it even simulates the texture.

This example is a 14x11 gallery wrap canvas with a 2" wrap.

For those not familiar, the skirt R. is wearing is called 'pettiskirt'. I was able to get 2 of these: this one in a solid raspberry color and another one in white with a raspeberry ruffle.

These are absolutely gorgeous, full and very soft. I will have them available for photo sessions with girls (you will have to bring your own top). The sizes are medium and large, which I think will fit girls between 6 and 10 years old, depending on weight and height.

Another great session that I had yesterday with these siblings- finally had a chance to photograph a boy (other than mine), and he was very natural in front of the camera. And K. was just up for anything, which proved to be so much fun.

I received some new equipment today and asked J. to sit for me to test it.

Happy D Day

It's D.'s birthday today (I won't say how old he is), and this is the gift from the children- it's 11x14 and I had it print with lustre coating (a protective finish), with embassy texture and mounted on foamboard. The lab did a really nice job and it looks very professional. I put it on a black frame but with no glass so you can appreciate the print texture better.
I'll be making some more of these- I really like the look.

Pretty in Pink

I know, very cliché, but she does look pretty in pink.

I had been wanting to open my seamless paper roll in Coral, but with three boys in the family, sometimes it's hard to justify. I finally had the chance to do a mini session with R., and she is such a great model (even if I may say so myself as a mom and not only the photographer).

At first, you can tell that J. did not want to sit with I. for a photo session (for a moment there, he even got mad), but in the end he warmed up and showered his little brother with kisses.

This little gem was taken today- little I. is getting so big!

I had the 'vision' for this photo last week as I was knitting the blanket used here (love the color and texture of it!). Can't wait to do a 'girl version' with the pink blanket (also knit last weekend) and pink backdrop.

M. and I finally had the opportunity to go out on a photo shoot. We discovered two new locations that have lots of possibilities, rustic and urban- this is one of them.

First Day of Spring

The Salt Lake Temple on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah.

D. and I took the kids to Temple Square today.

At 6:00 this morning it was snowing heavily and by 10 o'clock the sun was shining- the first day of Spring in Utah.

A New Place

We found a great new place for outdoor photos- it will be awesome later in the Spring when all the flowers are in bloom and everything looks fresh and green.

It was a little chilly this morning, but we still had fun and I was able to capture some really nice photos of R.

We are so looking forward to warmer weather!
